What is Better U?

Better U is an alternative mental wellness organization dedicated to increasing access and awareness to innovative treatments. Our clinicians provide customized psychedelic therapy programs, holistic psychiatry, and integration coaching for those wanting to experience an alternative to traditional medications. We are here to support individuals looking to improve their mental wellness and achieve long-term success. Our mission is to transform mental health and reform psychiatry from the diagnose and treat illness model to a thought expansion, neurological reset and spiritual health model by addressing the core causes of depression, anxiety, and chronic stress. By utilizing psychedelic therapy, functional neurology, and other alternative mental health modalities, we provide the tools to enhance our greatest human quality, self-healing. ‍

How does it work?

Beginning with an online assessment/video consult with a clinician to determine which treatment is right for you. Then, you'll schedule your virtual treatment preparation session to ensure you're mentally and physically prepared for your first session. Throughout your journey, you'll use our online platform to help prepare for your sessions, ketamine therapy treatments, self-exploration, and integrate what you've learned from these sessions into your daily life. 1-on-1 support, integration coaching, breathwork and meditation exercises are all available in your member portal.

What is Psychedelic Therapy?

Psychedelic Therapy is a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) exercises, Psychodynamic Therapy exercises, ketamine treatments and self-improvement techniques during a mental state of accelerated acceptance, peace and flexibility. Psychedelic medicine has been shown to enhance neuroplasticity, which may allow our mind to overcome rigid thinking and negative thought patterns. As a result, therapeutic exploration becomes easier and more efficient. By deconstructing rigid neurological and emotional barriers, psychedelic therapy can help promote transformational shifts in perspective.

What is a session?

Sessions are completed at your own time in the comfort of your own home. Beginning with your member portal, self-administered medication, along with treatment preparation (prior to first treatment) and post-session integration coaching. This is accompanied by an online safety and self-guided therapeutic program. Before and after your online ketamine treatments it is mandatory that you adhere to everything in the treatment protocol in the Members Section, which is accessible after a clinician accepts you into the Better U program.

Is this covered by insurance?

Unfortunately it is not covered by insurance at this time. We created this program to help bring this effective treatment as a cost effective alternative to I.V. treatments which can cost $3,000 to $5,000 for 1 month of treatments. We can provide superbills for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

We also offer payment plans with multiple third-party financing options.

If it's working for me, can I continue after month 1?

Yes, after your initial sessions are complete our medical team will advise and determine continuation of the program.

Is Psychedelic Therapy legal?

This is a great question and a common misconception about psychedelic therapy. It is not just taking a spiritual quest in the jungle with plant medicine! Our programs may include ketamine therapy. Ketamine is FDA-approved (as an anesthetic) and is used daily in hospitals around the world. Over the last 50 years, ketamine has been used in hospitals daily. Within the last 20 years, researchers have discovered multiple uses that could treat mental health conditions with ketamine. In fact, the evidence is so strong the American Psychiatric Association put out a statement saying that the antidepressant effects of ketamine are both rapid and robust. A derivative of ketamine, called Esketamine, was granted an FDA approval for treatment-resistant depression. Generic ketamine may be prescribed off-label for depression and anxiety. One study shows about 1 in 5 prescriptions are written "off-label" in the United States. Generic ketamine is not FDA-approved to treat mental health conditions. Yes, ketamine therapy is absolutely legal as long as it is prescribed by a licensed physician and there's Peer Support present during your session. Are in-office treatments available?

Yes! Not everyone is a good fit for psychedelic therapy programs that may include at-home ketamine therapy. We have in-office services available in California. Call our office to schedule your in-office appointment if you prefer to come into our office or if your home does not have a tranquil and private place for your sessions. Online ketamine therapy (lozenges) and in-office ketamine (infusions or IM) options are available.
