Emerging clinical studies have shown that mental wellness is more complex than you might think— it’s a reflection of your health in three key areas - mind, body and lifestyle. By exploring these areas and getting to know you we can find the root causes of your symptoms.
Relationship growth takes time. It starts with self-love, the ability to feel peace and happiness with self. With self-love, relationships become a bonus, not a necessity. Explore ways to increase your self-esteem and improve your relationship building skills.
Learn MoreLosing a loved one is never easy. Grief can present differently for everyone. The goal is to be present to our emotions, allocate time to reflect, and then continue to honor and remember our loved ones in an empowering way. Healthy grieving allows us to continue their legacy and impact on the world they left behind.
Learn MoreFinancial hardship can become overwhelming and anxiety provoking. Let’s learn to consolidate our budget, plan for the future, and find peace with our current situation. Financial planning and career building resources can give us the momentum we need to persevere through.
Learn MoreAny unhealthy addiction is a result of a few common factors. If we are not feeling at peace with our current emotional state, we often seek escape. We might not have healthy coping skills to deal with stress. Further, a chemical dependency can make quitting a challenge. Awareness is the first step.
Physical pain can temporarily displace emotional pain, leading to an unhealthy and often dangerous coping habit. Instead of resorting to self harm, let’s explore the root cause of our anguish and slowly find relief in healthier ways.
If we lose hope in the ability to feel better, we may think there’s no options left. Let’s not make a permanent decision for a temporary feeling. Life offers opportunity for healing and growth. There are people who care and want to help. Let’s explore solutions to find a healthier mindset.
Whether dealing with acute trauma or healing from past trauma, it’s important to process what we’re going through. Repressed feelings can surface in unhealthy ways such as anxiety, anger, insomnia, or depression. The earlier we can confront our emotional conflicts the better. The goal is to reframe our past experiences and find peace and empowerment in the present.
Our sexual health is a largely unspoken factor affecting our mental health. Whether we feel conflicted in our sexual habits, preferences, identity, or otherwise, talking with a professional can improve clarity, foster acceptance and remove any self-judgment towards our intimate feelings.
Spirituality can be a vague, emotionally activating concept. If we’ve experienced religious conflict, trauma, or grief, our view of the world may be affected. There is no right or wrong answer to the spiritual questions of life. A healthy exploration of these concepts can help us find our own truths that bring peace and empowerment to our lives.
We all have family conflict, one way or another. Whether the foundation of love exists or not, we can strive to lead with empathy and understanding in order to mend relationships and improve healthy communication.
Prejudice and hatred stems from ignorance and rigidity. If we lead with love and empathy and remind ourselves that other’s actions have very little to do with us, we can decrease the emotional charge we feel and model acceptance and understanding to those who need it most.
Technology has its advantages, but we must set healthy boundaries in our cell phone, computer, social media, and electronic entertainment habits. Electronic hygiene is more important now than ever. Let’s consider a periodic digital detox and healthier interactions with our tech.
We all get irritable and upset sometimes. It’s a normal human emotion. But when those emotions happen way too often, are uncontrollable, interfere with our daily functioning, or cause discord in relationships, it can be a sign of a treatable condition. We can help manage it before things get worse.
Learn MoreAnxiety is a normal human emotion. When it becomes overwhelming, neglected, or out of control, anxiety can interfere with day-to-day life. If we can change our perception of anxiety and address the underlying causes, we can work through and overcome those feelings to find peace and balance.
Learn MoreWe all have ups and downs, the difference between feeling sad and suffering from depression is when the feeling of sadness lingers from weeks to months. Let's explore these feelings further and find ways to achieve happiness in our daily lives.
When the world seems dark, and it's difficult to find hope, there are a lot of actions we can take to regain optimism. A "mental reset" or shift in perception is sometimes all it takes to start feeling better.
Everyone feels lonely sometimes. Feeling lonely doesn’t mean you’re weak. It just means you’re human. Loneliness could mean actually being isolated from other people or it’s often about not feeling understood or connected to the people around us. There are healthy ways to overcome loneliness, let's explore options together.
Stress can be a healthy motivating factor when addressed appropriately. It can range from acute stress from day-to-day life, feeling completely overwhelmed, to chronic stress that affects your ability to function or think clearly. We can help you explore different ways ways to cope and prevent chronic stress.
Better U is an alternative mental health organization dedicated to increasing access and awareness to breakthrough treatments. Our clinicians provide clinical at-home oral ketamine programs for those wanting to experience an alternative to traditional medications. Our ketamine treatments support individuals looking to improve their mental health and achieve long term success. Our mission is to transform mental health and reform psychiatry from the diagnose and treat illness model to a thought expansion, neurological reset and spiritual health model by addressing the core causes of depression, anxiety, and chronic stress. By utilizing psychedelic therapy, functional neurology, and other alternative mental health modalities, we provide the tools to enhance our greatest human quality, self-healing. Our licensed clinicians work with you to create a safe environment where you can begin your healing journey, guided by a world-class team led by the renowned Dr. Sam Zand, from Johns Hopkins University.
Beginning with an online assessment/video consult with a clinician to determine if online ketamine therapy is right for you. Then, you'll schedule your first visit where you'll prepare with your clinician to prepare for your first session. The clinician will provide a personalized plan for the following treatment sessions. Throughout your journey, you'll use our online platform to help prepare for your psychedelic therapy treatments, self-exploration, and integrate what you've learned from these treatments into your daily life.
Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy is a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, ketamine treatments and self-improvement techniques during a mental state of accelerated acceptance, peace and flexibility. Psychedelic medicine enhances neuroplasticity, which allows our mind to overcome rigid thinking and negative thought patterns. As a result, therapeutic exploration becomes easier and more efficient. By deconstructing rigid neurological and emotional barriers, psychedelic therapy promotes transformational shifts in perspective.
Online ketamine treatments are completed at your own time in the comfort of your own home. Beginning with online psychedelic therapy, self-administered medication, along with treatment preparation (prior to first treatment) and post-session integration. This is accompanied by an online safety and self-guided program. Before and after your online ketamine treatments it is mandatory that you adhere to everything in the Treatment Protocol in the Members Section, which is accessible after a clinician accepts you into the Better U program.
At-home ketamine therapy may produce a sense of disconnection from one’s ordinary reality and usual self that may induce or enhance feelings of creativity, purpose, perspective, serenity, insight, inspiration, gratitude, empathy, connection with others and the world, openness to new ideas, psychological rebirth, and traveling outside of one’s self, among others. You may also experience visual, auditory, and other sensory effects.
Depending on the dose and the time between your last session, you may experience anything from being more aware of how your body feels, quieting of the mind, feelings of love and gratitude, all the way to increased feelings of connection to yourself, to the universe/god, ego-transcendence, and revisiting past experiences from a different perspective - without the normal emotional charge attached to those experiences.
The level of dissociation is not directly related to the efficacy of the medicine.
Ketamine has an extensive history of use as an anesthetic agent for medical procedures and surgery. How ketamine allows for sedation during these procedures is due to its dissociative property. This dissociative property “disconnects” the mind from body by disrupting the action of the neurotransmitter (aka brain chemical) glutamate. When ketamine is used for non-anesthetic indications (KNAI), it can create transformational experiences. Because of this property, patients become dissociated and can have a “ketamine-induced non-ordinary state of consciousness.”
Ketamine treatments range from feeling like a deep-meditation to a "journey" or separation from your body & ego. While each experience is different, here's how we categorize the experiences:
Empathogenic Experience (EE):
Awareness of body
Comfort and relaxation
Reduced ego defenses
Empathy, compassion, love and peace
Euphoria
Mind is dreamy with non-specific colorful visual effects
Out-Of-Body Experience (OBE):
Feeling of separation from one’s body
Significantly diminished ego defenses
Vivid dreams of past and future incarnations
Ego-Dissolving Transcendental Experience (EDT):
Ecstatic state of the dissolution of boundaries between the self and external reality
Complete dissolution of one’s body and self (soul)
Collective consciousness
Unity with Nature/Universe
Sacredness
During at-home ketamine treatments, you may revisit memories, emotions, and stories which may contain unprocessed or repressed feelings - without the normal emotional attachments. This release allows for an opportunity to work through or process these past experiences and feelings.
Unfortunately, at this time, at-home ketamine treatments are not covered by insurance.
This is a great question and a common misconception about ketamine. Ketamine is FDA- approved and is used daily in hospitals around the world. Over the last 50 years, ketamine has been used in hospitals as an anesthetic. Within the last 20 years, researchers have discovered multiple uses that could treat mental health conditions with ketamine. In fact, the evidence is so strong the American Psychiatric Association put out a statement saying that the antidepressant effects of ketamine are both rapid and robust. A derivative of ketamine, called Esketamine, was granted an FDA approval for treatment-resistant depression. Yes, ketamine is absolutely legal, tested to be effective, and safe for as long as it is prescribed by a licensed physician and there's Peer Support present during your session. There are some people who should not use ketamine to treat their issues, please visit our blog for more information.
