Mark Muse is a licensed clinical social worker and the founder of Discovering Self Group, a telehealth practice serving clients in Florida, Oregon, Washington, and Kentucky. He works with adults and older adults, with particular focus on complex trauma, LGBTQ+ concerns, and grief and loss. Many of his clients have been in therapy before, found it helpful up to a point, and are looking for something that reaches further.

His clinical work centers on Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR. IFS gives clients a way to understand the different parts of themselves that drive anxiety, self-criticism, and long-standing patterns, and to meet those parts with curiosity instead of judgment. EMDR helps the brain process painful or stuck memories so they lose their grip on the present. Mark often brings the two together, using IFS to build internal safety and trust and EMDR to resolve what sits underneath. This combination is especially useful for complex trauma and for grief that has become tangled with older wounds.

Mark came to this work by an unusual route. He spent about twenty years in healthcare IT as a programmer, project manager, and director, then trained in bodywork before becoming a therapist. That path shapes how he practices: grounded, attentive to the body, and practical about how systems work, including the ones inside us.

He also provides clinical supervision to pre-licensed therapists. In session, his focus is steady presence, respect for the client as the expert on their own life, and a pace that lets real change take hold.(edited)
