I’m DJ Carter (they/them), and I am a mental health counselor licensed in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. I have a bachelor's degree in psychology from Kaplan University and a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling from Walden University, and I have been providing counseling services for 8 years.I have worked in a variety of mental healthcare settings and with a diverse range of clients. As a queer and nonbinary person, I care deeply about supporting my fellow members of the GSRM (gender/sexual/romantic minority) communities. My approach to therapy combines elements of narrative, cognitive behavioral, and psychodynamic techniques. I believe that stories have power, and the way that we tell those stories has power. By examining our stories, our beliefs, and the parts of our lives and histories that influence them, we can make lasting changes in our thought patterns and behaviors. Psychedelic therapies can help us see ourselves and our experiences from another perspective, which can lead to profound insights, ways to stop feeling “stuck”, and a greater connection to the world around us. I look forward to helping others integrate these experiences by deriving meaning and applying those insights to their daily lives. In my spare time, I enjoy comics, tabletop games, fantasy, horror, and sci-fi, and I like to draw on shared experiences with those genres when working with like-minded clients.
